I love all types of performing arts photography. I primarily photograph dance and opera but it’s so much fun to mix it up every once in a while. Whether it’s Denver live music photography, theater, or a multimedia performance, I love capturing all kinds of live arts here in Colorado and beyond. Each show is different, even one night to the next. I think my experience in opera and dance photography has prepared me well for any kind of performing arts.
Gabriel Mervine | Denver Live Music Photography
This is a bit of a throwback blog post! A few years ago, I photographed Gabriel Mervine performing at Nocturne Jazz Club. They went on after an Opera Colorado event held there, which I was covering. Nocturne is a great wine bar and jazz club in the RiNo neighborhood. It has an amazing atmosphere, a cross between industrial and art deco. Each year, Opera Colorado holds a concert with a dinner and wine pairing and I get to photograph it. After the event ends, they open the place up to the public again and usually bring in a band or musician.
This time, I stayed around a bit longer and got a few shots of the band. I had a great time photographing this performance. The space is so fun to work in, with the curving staircase and loft level to shoot from. I couldn’t get enough of the purple lighting as well. It gave a really moody vibe to the photos. It was just such a beautiful space and a wonderful band. I guess I just wasn’t ready to go home yet!
