High School portraits have burst out of the studio in a big way. Now seniors have way more fun with outdoor photo sessions all around town. I met Madison at Park Hill Dance Academy. I get to know the students a bit when I do their Academy headshots as well as a promotional session for the school and their annual showcase of academy and company dance performances. So Madison’s mom reached out to me when it was time for her senior session.
After I sent examples of my work, they fell in love with the Millennium Bridge in downtown Denver. We shot all around the bridge, above and below, and then took a short walk to Confluence Park for some nature settings. It was a beautiful day for Madison to enjoy her surroundings. Three outfits and many poses later, she had some great shots to choose from. She was so excited to have photos in a colorful, urban setting because all of her classmates use the same few photographers and go to the same old location. I love that she got to stand out and have a unique senior portrait experience!

We did the session just before the 2018 election so I asked Madison if she wanted to take some photos by the ballot box. This was the first election she could vote in and she was super excited about it. Since the election wasn’t far away, the ballot boxes were open (they are usually covered and locked up.) and there was one right at the base of the bridge. Everyone was very entertained by the dancer on the ballot box. One of the bus drivers leaned out the window and said, “Look, it’s a Ballet Box!”
Madison just graduated high school and she is off to Colorado State University in the fall. She won’t leave dance very far behind as she plans to keep up with her dance classes while on campus. Congratulations Madison! Best of luck for a bright future!
