I have another throwback post for you all! This one is all about Layla and pro-bono senior portraits. I started volunteering to do senior portraits a few years ago as part of a project to photograph high school seniors from New Legacy High School. New Legacy High School is a Denver charter school for young parents. It’s half high school and half early learning center so the students and their children can learn at the same time. It’s so great that we have a school like this here in Denver! Most people I know who became a parent in high school never graduated because they didn’t have the support and childcare they needed. New Legacy offers these students just that.
Willy Wilson, a fellow photographer organizes a bunch of us photographers at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science every year and matches us to the seniors we will photograph. When I first signed up for this project, I hadn’t done any senior portraits. I was really excited to try it out and start building my portfolio. Now, it’s a great way to keep pushing myself to try new things and to give back to seniors who can’t afford a session on their own. Recently, I signed up for another project to donate senior portrait sessions and I’m really excited to start that too! I donate a lot of my time and photography services to performing arts organizations, like Presenting Denver. Until I found these projects, I didn’t have the opportunity to donate portrait sessions regularly. I’m really excited to keep diversifying my volunteer work through these photography projects.
