I was invited to photograph The Space Between, a performance by Naropa University’s Somatic Counseling Psychology students. Even though these students were not dance students, they were incredible dancers and choreographers.
Naropa’s website descibes the show much better than I ever could, so I’ll let them do just that. “Directed by MA Somatic Counseling Psychology students Gaelyn Powell and Stefanie Raccuglia , “the space between” is a collection of sixteen individual works delving into themes of contrast, relationship, intimacy, and authenticity.
“The culmination of months of artistic exploration into the tension between polarities and the vulnerability of the human experience, this concert reflects creators’ commitment to honesty through embodied performance.
“The presentation of this emotionally motivated work takes shape through a variety of modalities, including, dance, music, sound, spoken word and acro-yoga. The palpable courage and depth of each creator’s exploration ensures an experience for the audience that is far more than simply entertaining.”
The show ended with a dance party, my favorite way to end any performance!
