I love being a dance festival photographer! I got my start in photography with internships at performing arts festivals and it was amazing. I’ve been wanting to get back to festival photography ever since. June of 2018 was finally my chance! I had been working as a part of Presenting Denver to put on a dance festival here for a few years and it was finally happening. The festival was incredible and I couldn’t wait until the next one, two years later.
That meant 2020, and we know how that worked out. Not having a festival this year, while obviously the right decision, was really hard. I look forward to every opportunity I have to photograph dance and not having really any opportunities to do so this year, was difficult. I coped with this by looking back on my favorite performances and favorite images from the past. So, putting together this blog post was a small part of that for me.
Dance Festival Photographer | Edgar L. Page
Edgar L. Page performed to the table with Saidiya Imari in the New and Now Showcase at Presenting Denver’s inaugural Denver Dance Festival. After the performances, the audience members voted on their favorite piece and company and this piece won the Audience Favorite award. So, Edgar was invited back to Festival 2021 to perform again on the mainstage. We are so excited to have him back!
Here’s a bit about Edgar’s company Edgar L. Page: Feel the Movement, from Presenting Denver: “Establishing Edgar L. Page: Feel the Movement in June of 2018, he utilizes this unique platform to explore the human pursuit of love and happiness in an era marked by the continual morphing of intimacy due to technology. Working towards autonomy as an Artistic Director and Choreographer, Page is cultivating a body of work with palpable energy that crosses borders or effaces them completely. Engaging audiences and inviting them to explore #thefeelingofanemotion, this allows his work to live in larger social conversation long after the final bow.”
