Since I shared a little peek of my shoot with Frequent Flyers, I thought I’d share a little more. Toward the end of their Professional Training Program, I visited the Frequent Flyers studio in Boulder and photographed the eight aerial dancers who were training there. Meet them all below!
They were amazing! I spent most of the day there taking headshots, eating cupcakes, and photographing them up in the air. I got to stand on rolling staircase thing to get up to their level and watch everyone pitch in and climb up scaffolding to change out the apparatuses.
Everyone had their favorite apparatuses and their own unique style. I was so amazed to see each of them get up there and show off their moves! Each one of them blew me away.
Aerial dance presents many difficulties, but being photographed in aerial poses is even more difficult. Dancers have to hold each pose while someone fixes their shirt, tells them minor adjustments to make, spins them around and then they have to wait even longer for the photographer to get just the right angle and just the right light. It takes a ton of strength and grip on top of all the flexibility, muscle, and lack of acrophobia (that’s fear of heights).
These women are just so badass!
Oh yeah, I have a special treat for you! It’s your prize for reading this far. Here’s a gif of Linda spinning on the pendulum!

Thanks Erica. Me too!
LOVE this! I’m taking silks classes and can definitely agree with how hard it is. Beautiful photos!
Thanks Melissa. Where are you taking your silks class?
These are so cool! I have a lot of respect for aerial dancers – I could never do that! Great images!
I don’t think I could either. They really are amazing. Thanks so much!
This is so cool Jamie! Love this!

Holy cow how amazing! And such amazing shots!
Thank you Pamela!
These are ridiculously cool! The chain makes me cringe though. Ouch!
I know Rayna! I’m pretty sure she had to wear full length pants and a shirt for that reason.
Wow! What great photos of such talented ladies!
Thanks Robin. Aren’t they just awesome?
Oh wow, what talented beautiful women! Love how you showcased their unique personalities.
