Every year, I get the opportunity to take the Park Hill Dance Academy headshots of their youth company members. We do these sessions in September or October after Park Hill has their company auditions. It’s always so great to see the familiar faces (and some new ones) of the kids I get to photograph throughout the year!
This was the first year we did the headshots inside. I’m sure everyone was happy about that. It has been cold, rainy, snowy everytime we do this session, even if it’s warm and sunny the next week! Outdoor headshots are so beautiful and fun but with the luck we have had, it was time to try something different. This time, it was actually snowing outside and even I was glad to be indoors! I took headshots of all the company members as well as the Collective (their adult company) members and new dance teachers.

Since this was an indoor session, I brought my lights to set up in the dance studio and used the ballet barres as the background. I always take both verticle and horizontal headshots of each person so they can use them however they need to. I think the dance studio background gave these academy headshots a great ballet look. One of the Collective members is a budding photographer, so she helped me adjust the lights and pack everything up at the end of the day. It was so nice to have a helping hand!
Park Hill Dance Academy opened a brand new studio that they built out this year. Karlyn, the owner, and I are talking about the next academy headshots session right now. I can’t wait to meet all the new dancers and see their new space!
